Balance
One of the most effective ways to regain balance is to move and change our energy. More specifically, if we focus on increasing heat in our lower body, our physical and energy systems will consider this process a sort of reset and recalibration. We increase heat in our lower body by moving our big muscles, the legs (walking, squats, knee lifts, hip opening...), and by activating our lower chakras, especially the third and second chakras. After increasing heat in the lower half of our body we can practice relaxation and we can begin to improve the depth of our breathing. Have you ever tried to breathe deeply when you experience anxiety, worry, bursts of anger, or when you're simply very busy mentally? You would have most likely noticed that it's not so easy to take really deep breaths. This happens because our chest and solar plexus are tense; they may not feel tense, but the reality is that we get used to walking around with a knot in our chest/upper back, solar plexus/middle of the back, and lower abdomen/lower back (front and back of our bodies/Yin and Yang aspects), so much so that they become an energetic bullet-proof vest, an armour. Fire energy can't fully move, keeping tension in our neck, shoulders, chest, and backs. This is the main reason why in each training session we move all of our joints, from top to bottom, we tap and shake our bodies, and then practice lowering brain waves with energy movements, energy breathing, and relaxed-focused visualization while breathing.
We can allow our hearts a bit of rest by stimulating the circulation of the center of our body, our gut, which holds a third of the body's blood volume. With increased blood circulation, the heart is refreshed, then the brain starts to find the path back to coherence with its other mind-partner, the heart. We normally tap on our belly, right? do intestine exercises, then practice tapping the legs a few times around, specifically because we have strong muscle here and also because most of us tend to have difficulty bringing energy all the way down to the soles of the feet. Training the lower half of the body is the quickest and most effective way to reset, restore and return to balance. If we try to solve 'thinking' with thinking, we actually make things more complicated - we become an upside-down pyramid, quite unstable. When we bring our focus to the opposite side of our body, the intelligence of our cells recognize what is happening, our energy system recognizes these signals and informs the inner and outer meridians and chakras to self-regulate, to go back to 'normal - which is balance'. I visualize it as a series of lanes on a busy highway. All of a sudden, all these little colorful cars realize they're going down the wrong way (recognition of discomfort), they turn around with careful precision (mindful movement/change energy), finally stop honking at each other (less confusion), and then they are all mysteriously flowing in the same direction (neutral, then joyful feelings in the heart). How amazing is that?
Let's keep focusing on recovering balance daily. I look forward to training together!
We have so many ancient practices to help us return to our center on a daily basis. I invite you to try something different at least once a week. Give your brain something fresh to learn, to practice.
See you soon. :-)
***** Pyramid shape and IN charachter in the Chun Bu Kyung text - The IN charachter/symbol resembles a pyramid. It is formed by one stroke representing energy descending from the Cosmos, and one stroke representing the energy ascending from the Earth. IN means human, or humanity - life forms. The union of Cosmos and Earth is Humanity. In Taoist phylosophy and chakra symbols, the IN or triangle/pyramid, is part of the Heart Chakra representation. A Triangle, meaning the triad, the manifestation of form, where the Soul enters the physical body, the Heart. To fully BE a human is to have a stable foundation, like a pyramid, and to cultivate the descending and ascending energies within (first) and outside of our physical body. Alchemy occurs with refinement of these energies, continuous refinement - it is always moving, changing, transmuting, refining, as we in-gather/in-body higher quantities and qualities of these vibrations.
